I couldn’t be happier! As an engineer, it took me 2 years to figure which battery unit fit my needs. I wasn’t looking to save money off my electric bill – I was looking for something that could handle a natural disaster and keep everything running for extended periods. I needed a 30 amp 220v output for the basics and The Walrus is the only unit that gave me every single type of recharging capability and output I was looking for. My 220v usage (well pump 20 A) and 110v usage in the house are easily handled by the Walrus. Our heat (wood or propane) and water heater (propane) give us everything else we need. I can charge the Walrus in 11 hours with solar panels (3 – 400 watt 40 volt panels in series), 220v (plugs into generator 220) in 2.2 hours, 110v (i bought this optional charger as a “trickle charger” in 11 hours or even 12V which would take longer than I want to wait. I figure at 13KW 180ah I have about 3-4 days runtime for the basics. Hope I don’t ever have to find out – but I am prepared. For those out there with external manual generator inputs – this is the perfect unit. I have the 4 prong adapter to my 50A input and it runs everything you could need. Well, lights, 2 fridges, lights, heat and microwave. $100 for a 4 prong 240 10 gauge extension cord and $30 for the 50 to 30 adapter and you are in business! P.S. Since it’s a dry battery (unlike Tesla) it runs 100 degrees cooler and can’t catch on fire! Basically, this was the technology I was waiting for and then to find it all in 1 package at a great price that was easy to install and hook up was a bonus.

Battery Backup Conclusion: My battery life estimates were way off. However, I did use way more power than I would in an actual emergency. I did turn everything I could put on it in the house and ran for 9 hours straight before it was out of juice. Only turned off the dryer and range circuit but left the rest of the house on including heat and hot water (both propane). Used microwave several times, had auxiliary heater on in office (waiting for a blower part for the other side of the house) I did run the 220v well pump for 2 hours (wife and I both took long soaker baths in the walk in tub) which keeps the 220v well running continuously and probably killed 1/2 of the battery charge so my estimate, just using basics is 20 – 24 hours before it’s totally dead. Still not bad and manageable as I can run the generator which runs the whole house and charge the battery at the sametime. On the flip side, the 110V charger (still worth it) takes 24 hours to recharge the battery from dead. Redundancy. Still happy – just wont use the 220v circuits for 2 hours straight lol One thing for sure – easy hookup and the lights didn’t flicker once because of the sine wave technology. So I stand corrected on my first “untried” evaluation. This is the real world and now I know where I stand.

The Walrus is saving money!
My electric bill is cut in half without a sub-panel, only charging with solar panels. I also used as a whole home backup firing my well and most everything else in my home for over 6 hours with plenty of juice to spare, I need Battery EVO to hook me up with a second battery pack and I will test going 100% off grid with a video review to follow, for now check out my first video review.
