When This Product Works Best
• Steel/galvanized metal tanks — Primary application

• Livestock watering tanks (non-potable water)

• Rainwater collection tanks

• Lightly rusted metal surfaces — Can be applied directly over light rust
Before You Start: Critical Limitations
• NOT for potable (drinking) water — Not food-grade certified

• NOT for chlorinated pools or treated water — Won't withstand chlorine or bromine

• Remains tacky — Not meant to be a walking surface
Surface PreparationMetal Surface Cleaning:
• Remove all heavy rust scale by brushing or scraping (light rust is fine)

• Clean thoroughly to remove dirt, debris, loose paint, oil, grease, and silicone residue

• Dry completely before application

• Temperature must be 50°F+ (10°C+) including overnight temps
If Tank Has Existing Paint:
• If paint is tight and well-adhered with no bubbles or peeling — apply directly over it

• If paint has bubbles or is chipping — sand or remove compromised paint first
Application ProcessCoverage Rates:
• Vertical surfaces (tank sides): 1 gallon covers ~30 sq ft; requires 2-3 heavy coats for proper 30 mil thickness

• Flat/horizontal surfaces (tank bottom/top): 1 gallon covers ~15 sq ft; requires 4-5 heavy coats for 60-80 mil thickness
Application Methods:
• Brush or roller (easiest for tanks)

• Heavy-duty airless paint sprayer (can thin with 5% distilled water if needed)

• Apply generous, heavy coats — do NOT apply thin coats
Application Timing:
• Apply each coat when previous coat is dry to touch (4-8 hours typically)

• Tacky texture between coats is normal and acceptable

• Use all material to achieve long-lasting membrane
Drying & Curing
• Dries within 24-48 hours

• Do NOT apply if rain is forecasted within 24 hours

• Avoid applying in hot, intense direct sunlight

• Do not apply in wet conditions

• Do not freeze the product
Color NoteCustomers report the product looks brown when wet but turns black after drying. If tank has ponding water (stays wet), it may turn brownish due to surfactants — this dissipates as water cycles.Use with Seam TapeFor maximum effectiveness:
1. Apply Liquid Rubber Peel and Stick Seam Tape over seams and problem areas first

2. Let tape adhesive set (24 hours recommended)

3. Then apply MetalSafe Sealant over the tape and entire tank surface
